A: For accurate results, measure from edge to edge of the filter frame. If your measurements show 19.5" x 24.5" x 0.75", you would round to the nearest whole inch and order a 20x25x1 filter.

A: Fiberglass filters are the most common types of air filters. The layered fiberglass that makes up these filters can capture relatively large particles of dirt and dust, but they're not as effective against smaller particles like pet dander or pollen. These filter types need replacing every 30 to 90 days.

A: Place the filter correctly. Most filters are printed with an arrow that indicates furnace filter airflow. Place the filter with an arrow pointing toward the furnace, in the direction of airflow. Correct placement is important.

A: Air filters remove impurities from the air, but when installed incorrectly, the contaminants will not get trapped in the filter and remain in the air. Placing the filter the wrong way will also cause it to clog, which means the indoor air quality will be reduced.
