Air Compressor Oil Filter

A: All Rotary Screw air compressor have three filters; an oil filter, an air inlet filter, and an air/oil separator. Like changing the oil in your machine, replacing the filters will prevent your compressor's parts from failing prematurely and avoid the oil from becoming contaminated.

A: Before draining the oil, run the compressor for a couple minutes. This warms the oil so it will flow more easily and helps remove contaminants that may have settled in the oil sump. Place a catch can or drain pan under the drain plug and drain the old oil.

A: You could use 5w30 or 15w40. Unless it was really cold or really hot, it would make no difference.

A: Remove the Filter: Carefully remove the filter from the compressor. Blow with Compressed Air: Use compressed air to blow out any loose debris and dirt. Wash with Warm Soapy Water: If the filter is washable, clean it with warm soapy water. Rinse and Dry: Rinse the filter thoroughly and allow it to dry completely.

A: Mineral compressor oil should be changed every 4000 operating hours. Synthetic compressor oils can usually be operated twice as long. However, depending on the installation and suction conditions, the oil change intervals may vary.
